A Doppler ultrasonography, also known as a Color Doppler test, is a non-invasive procedure used to assess the flow of blood via blood arteries. It assists clinicians in assessing blood flow through major arteries and veins, such as those in the arms, legs, and neck. It can reveal stopped or restricted blood flow through small sections in the main arteries of the neck, which could cause a stroke.
It can also detect blood clots in the leg veins (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT), which can break free and obstruct blood flow to the lungs (pulmonary embolism). During pregnancy, Doppler ultrasonography may examine blood flow in an unborn baby (fetus) to determine the fetus’s health.
