An X-ray is used during a hysterosalpingogram to see inside your uterus and fallopian tubes. Scar tissue, polyps, fibroids, and blocked fallopian tubes are all conditions that could prevent a fertilized egg from correctly implanting in your uterus. After your period but before ovulation, you must perform it between cycle days 6 and 11. To schedule a time for your procedure, contact the office on the first day of your period. For the surgery to be completed, you must not be actively bleeding. In order to address the potential need for antibiotics, you will be contacted at least 4 days prior to the surgery if you have a personal history of pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, or chlamydia. During the process, the doctor will place a thin plastic tube leading to your uterus into your cervix after inserting a speculum into your vagina (similar to when you have a Pap smear done). The plastic tube will be used to inject a unique color. Your uterus and fallopian tubes should be completely filled with the dye, which should also pour out of each tube's end. The radiologist will be taking X-rays while this is going on.
